FEATURESINSTALLATIONABOUT LSD & DIFFERENCIAL GEAR
More quieter and improved transmission efficiency with Tomeis " ADVANCE DISC". The friction quality changed with the new surface finish. Smoother operations and more stable behavioral changes with either being ON or OFF the throttle. There is no loud LSD crackling sounds and therfore making it more comfortable for the daily street driven car.
The bulk clutch which makes the torque of the engine transmit efficiently is the main benefit for the LSD role in order to correspond with engine tuning. The T-TRAX ADVANCE Nissan 350Z (Z33) models friction clutch areas 127cm2 per disc, the effective friction area is 1274cm2 ( 63.7×10 surface area ×2), clearly unmatched by any other maker.

Using a total of 24 friction discs (double the standard amount) offers a more uniform torque transmission for improved control.
In order in increase the amount of friction discs possible, the T-Trax models adopted the use of the coil spring disc. This helped with the more compact design and increasing the overall initial torque possible in mechanical LSD. In addition this unique design spring disc shows with continuous severe driving conditions, this has outlasted any previous designs with T-Trax unsurpassed durability.
Adaptation of Srping Discs. The compact design mechanism structure that clamps the large surface area, for the high initial torque.
VARIABLE RATE SPRING DISC
The longevity of the unit was proven with the variable spring rate, tested during extreme conditions.
Previously all car models required the exchange of both the side flanges when upgrading the LSD unit. But with T-TRAX ADVANCE it is now possible to use the original factory side flange. Of course there is no decrease in quality, efficiency or performance but it helps with bring down the costs of upgrading your diff. (with the exception of some models the side flanges still have to be exchanged on certain models). Our aim was to increase performance while trying to give the end user best value for money.
Extreme driving as well as high initial torque puts additional loads and stresses on the LSD case. This can sometimes cause warping, leading to reduced performance. However, this LSD case has been designed to withstand this with ease and prevents this from happening.
T-TRAX ADVANCE kit comes with everything required for each application. T-TRAX special diff oil, carrier cover gaskets, bearings and oil seals are included which are required when upgrading the diff for the majority of the Nissan line-up.
When upgrading to the Technical Trax LSD there is a large significant difference that you have to experience.
Please practice using this LSD in a safe environment to get accustomed to it.
LSD units tend to have a chattering sound when it operates. This is completely normal and doesn't mean that there is a problem. Technical Trax LSD units are vehicle specific and should only be used for the model specified. The kit comes with 2 liters of "TOMEI hypoid gear LSD oil" in the kit (GL-5 80W-90) and must be used with the Tomei Technical Trax LSD unit. When using another brand or grade oil you may experience a louder chattering sound from the LSD unit and can increase wearing thus reducing the life span of the LSD unit. Oils with higher viscosity and higher pressure type lubricants may increase the chance for the LSD chattering noise to increase. If you want to stop the chattering noise after using aftermarket oil you can try these methods 1: to completely change the oil to the Tomei Technical Trax oil after flushing it completely. 2: If the noise is still present you will have to dismantle the LSD unit and wash & clean each surface area of all internals before reassembling the unit and applying the Tomei Technical Trax Oil. Once the LSD unit is reassembled it is required to reset the initial torque for the LSD unit. After about 5 kilometers of running the unit in you will need to adjust the unit’s settings. The value of the initial torques setting can vary after the testing has ended as it depends on upon the vehicles condition of traveling and the type of oil used. If necessary you may need to re-adjust.
Oversized Friction Discs (+0.1) change the initial torque settings.

※ If the current discs have been worn in (the new parts) you won't be able to install more than 3 plates.
Open Differential. When the driving wheel of the car revolves, the outer wheel is always turning faster/more than the inner wheel on cornering. This is due to the final gear acting as one unit, with the special structure which utilizes the four bevel gears which are facing two gears which are connected to both left and right axle side gears (the differential) known as the other two pinion gears. When the car accelerates forward the final gear and the whole differential acts as one, it turns both left and right axles at the same speed. But normally when cornering the revolution & speed of both side gears left and right changes due to the way the pinion turns, this causes the differential mechanism to force the outer wheel to turn faster than the inner wheel.
Limited Slip Differential. Also known as the nonslip differential, L.S.D. When the wheel on one side of the driving wheel enters into mud or when it loses grip, that wheel would usually idles due to the function of the open diff differential gears, thus making the car unable to move. This is due to the difference of rotating speeds of both the left & right side drive shafts (being different in motion) is restricted depending upon when to lock. There is with a friction plate type LSD which utilizes gears and clutch plates to generate differential resistance and then there is an RPM response type LSD which utilizes rotary difference. The friction plate system furthermore is classified into residual pressure type "multiple plate type" for torque proportional systems.
Viscous LSD works by utilizing plates within housing with thick fluid. This LSD works by sensing the rotation speed between the 2 drive shafts. The 2 sets of plates are connected to a driveshaft on one side. Normally the driveshaft’s and fluid will spin at the same speed but if one side changes speed the fluid stuck between the plates will try to catch up to the faster side by transferring the torque to the slower side.
Torsen LSD units are purely a mechanical design and don’t use any viscous fluids, plate clutches or electronically devices. This design operates on its internal worm like gears & consists of the combination of 3 types of gear, 2 worm gears which is connected to the left & right drive shafts (those which are suitable with side gears of the normal diff). This works similar to the open differential but when one wheel looses traction the worm gears then bind or lock together which in effect will force both sides to run at the same speed. The key points in this design are the internal gears and their design as it will determine its torque bias ratio. This type is more commonly popular with higher powered all wheel drive cars. TORque SENsing is the meaning behind the name of TORSEN.
The Technical Trax LSD unit is based on the multiple plate clutch design. With this design the multiple friction clutch plates are located between the side gears and the differential casing and utilize the pinion and cam gears. This is a torque proportional type LSD. In the usual differential arrangement it is connected to both left & right axles directly, when the driving force of one side differs in speed the pinion gear with the cam angle forces the clutch plates to compress and grip to in effect transfer the driving torque evenly to both axles. The T-TRAX ADVANCE has adopted this system which has proven its effectiveness as the best for 2WD applications.
